“I liked him last season when he ran well in all his starts and said to Chris even then that he’d be a nice horse when he fills out,” Callan said. “He’s a nuggety type, not the sort who is going grow big, but I just thought he’d fill out a bit and strengthen and he has. He’s put on a nice bit of weight and that gives Chris something to work with now as a more mature horse.”

Callan said Fairy Twins had taken benefit from a quiet Happy Valley trial in the lead up to his return and believes So had made the right decision after being in two minds.

“In the end, I think it just blew out the cobwebs having a run around there and had him spot on for today and you see what he did with them,” Callan said. “I’m sure there’s more improvement to come as that was only his fourth start, he’s won twice now and he has been versatile enough to win at both tracks – he looks to have a future.”
