A switch in distance brought Price Bloodstock sprinter Sight Success back to winning ways at Happy Valley on Sunday in class record time.

Sight Success had racked up wins at his first three starts last season and looked destined for the top classes but had not been able to build on that, including two defeats to start his new campaign but trainer John Size was unconcerned.

“He was very promising early and I don’t think he has done much wrong actually. It doesn’t get any easier as you go up the handicaps but now he has won in Class 2, he’s still only lightly-raced after 10 starts and I think there is more to come with him,” Size said. “He has natural speed so I wasn’t concerned about coming back to 1000m here after he didn’t produce his best at 1400m last time. He was strong at the finish over the short distance.”

The five-year-old led throughout, with jockey Vagner Borges using his light handicap to good effect, and Sight Success pushed his stakemoney well past $4 million.

“We had a good jump and he’s got good speed, so I always wanted to be in the first three and to see how things panned out,” Borges explained. “I think he can go up in class, for sure. He’s still improving and he won very well today.”
