WAYFOONG VINNIE

A drop in class has been the turning point for Price Bloodstock recruit Wayfoong Vinnie and he brought up a breakthrough victory at Happy Valley on Wednesday night that won’t be his last according to jockey Nash Rawiller.

The John Size-trained five-year-old had indicated he was coming right in his final run last season, when he was an unlucky fourth over the Valley 1,200m at his first appearance in Class Four.
“He raced ok first-up on the dirt this season but he was fitter tonight and Nash did a good job to get him home,” said Size. “I think he’s up to a race in Class Three now that he has struck form.”

Wayfoong Vinnie won by only a neck but Rawiller believes that winning at all was a good effort as the gelding wasn’t doing everything right over the final 200m.

“He had a nice pace up front and was running on very well but he wanted to lay in with me when he got his head in front,” Rawiller said. “So he wasn’t helping me or himself but still came out on top, which indicates he does have a little bit more in the tank. I’ll be suggesting that John try a lugging bit on him to straighten him out and, if it does, he should be competitive even going back up a class next time.”
