HAPPY SPIRIT

14th Dec 2016

Price Bloodstock’s “owner’s dream” horse, Happy Spirit found himself in a new role on Wednesday night at Happy Valley and he relished it to land his fourth victory.

Happy Spirit had already won 3 of his previous 13 starts, all at Happy Valley, and each win had been from the front, leading all the way but jockey Joao Moreira found the ideal situation to try something a bit different and show that the five-year-old isn’t one dimensional.

“There was quite a bit of speed on up front, so I would have had to make too much use of him to look for the lead. I was quite happy to sit behind them and so was he,” Moreira said. “And when I asked him to go, he sprinted strongly and won comfortably. I didn’t ride him in his other wins but naturally I have seen them and to me this was his best win yet.”

A son of Holy Roman Emperor, who has had so much success in Hong Kong, Happy Spirit won by a clear margin to take himself into Class Two next time and to take his stake earnings well past $3 million with more to come. He has finished out of the first four placings only four times in his career.
